shelley’s jacket using leftover fabric
Shelley is back again today with yet another fantastic sewing project. This time, she's putting her leftover materials from her last project, the barnyard Chaval Coat, to good use. She's created a delightful toddler jacket that’s both adorable and practical.
Take a look at the images below. The first picture shows the finished product—a toddler jacket crafted from a modified version of the School Days Jacket vest. It’s an excellent example of how creativity can turn scraps into something special.
As Shelley explained, she had some leftover quilted lining from her Chaval Coat. Using the School Days Jacket pattern, she transformed the quilted under-vest into a full jacket by adding sleeves. To ensure it would fit well, she widened the center-front slightly so it could overlap and be fastened with snaps.
But no toddler garment would be complete without pockets, right? So, she incorporated the charming gathered pockets from her Puppet Show Shorts onto the front of the jacket. It’s a small detail that adds so much character and functionality!
Now, while Shelley admits pleather bias binding was challenging to work with—it’s quite tricky to sew—she still managed to create a super cute, speedy, and straightforward jacket out of her leftovers. It’s a testament to her skill and resourcefulness!

I must say, this reminds me of the jacket from our Lullabye Layette baby set, but tailored for slightly older kids. It’s such a clever idea and beautifully executed!
