Dow Jones: U.S. cotton sales decrease by almost half from last week

October 28, 2010 Dow Jones News: Export figures show that US cotton sales fell by almost half from last week, and cotton fell during the subsequent trading day. The US Department of Agriculture reported that about 276,000 bales of cotton were exported as of October 21 last week, a 45% reduction from the previous week. Analysts said that as textile mills slowed down their purchases, the impact of higher prices was shown. However, demand is still above normal, and if prices fall, purchases can accelerate again. The December contract's closing price was 1.2168 cents per pound, down 1.91 US dollars, or 1.6%.
