Mali: Revise down cotton production forecast for 2010-11

The Mali government lowered its 2010/11 cotton production estimate further to 262,000 tons on Thursday, with an estimated 278,000 tons in November.

Comprehensive media December 30 news, the Mali government on Thursday 2010/11 cotton production forecast further lowered to 262,000 tons, November forecast of 278,000 tons, due to poor weather conditions.

The Mali government’s estimate of cotton production in September was 360,000 tons.

Cotton, including gold and livestock, is also an important part of Mali's export trade.

The increase in gold exports helped to offset the trade losses that have been lost in recent years due to the reduction in the volume of cotton export trade. Last year, the export volume of cotton was about 230,000 tons.

The Malian Cotton Market is from November to April of the following year.
