They recommend that, especially during the summer, each individual should use multiple towels to maintain hygiene and health. Due to traditional living habits and consumption concepts, many consumers overlook the importance of towels in maintaining personal health, continuing to use them in an unscientific way. These bad habits include: 1. Sharing a single towel among multiple people. 2. Using one towel for various purposes. 3. Not replacing or washing towels regularly, leading to reuse. 4. Neglecting proper hygiene practices for towels. 5. Ignoring the risks associated with counterfeit products. These unhygienic habits became a major concern during the SARS outbreak, prompting consumers to become more aware of the importance of proper towel usage. So, how can we break these bad habits and make scientific choices when it comes to towels? Here are some tips on selecting quality towels: (1) Purchase: Try to buy from large supermarkets, shopping malls, or specialized stores, and choose products from reputable manufacturers. (2) Identification: Qualified towels should have a standardized logo and include information such as the manufacturer, origin, contact details, trademark, production standards, and washing instructions. (3) Feel: High-quality towels are usually soft, fluffy, and elastic. (4) Appearance: Good towels have bright colors, clear patterns, even loops, and neat seams. (5) Smell: A qualified towel should have no strong or unpleasant odor. In addition, you can perform a few simple tests when using a towel. For example, if water droplets are quickly absorbed by the towel, it indicates good water absorption. High-quality towels feel elastic and provide friction when used, and they don’t easily fade. Lower quality towels tend to be less absorbent, loose, and slippery, and may cause irritation to the skin or eyes. It is recommended that consumers use small towels and manage their usage scientifically. (1) Use dedicated towels for specific purposes, such as face towels, bath towels, kitchen towels, etc. With the rapid development of China’s towel industry, there are now many types and grades available, including square towels, napkins, tea towels, and specialty towels for children, adults, and women. According to national guidelines, each person should ideally have at least three towels for men and four for women. (2) Wash and disinfect regularly. When washing your face or taking a shower, rinse the towel with soap and water before drying. This helps reduce the buildup of dirt. After use, wash the towel promptly, and boil it for 10 minutes weekly to sterilize it. Always ensure it is well-ventilated and dried properly. (3) Replace regularly. Changing towels on a regular basis is key to breaking old habits. It is generally recommended to replace towels every three months. (4) Treat the towel for hardening. Over time, towels can become stiff due to the reaction between calcium and magnesium ions in water and soap. To soften them, add 30 grams of soda ash or 1.5 grams of washing soda to boiling water and soak for 10 minutes. If the towel becomes greasy, it can be washed with salt water to restore its softness.
