University question in a small towel

Experts from the China Household Textile Industry Association's Towel Professional Committee have highlighted several unhealthy habits in towel usage. They recommend that, especially during summer, individuals should be encouraged to use multiple towels for better hygiene and health. Due to long-standing traditional habits and consumer perceptions, many people overlook the importance of towels in maintaining personal health, continuing to use them unscientifically. These bad habits include: 1. Using a single towel for multiple people. 2. Reusing the same towel for various purposes. 3. Not replacing or discarding old towels, leading to reuse. 4. Neglecting proper hygiene and cleaning. 5. Ignoring the risks associated with counterfeit or low-quality products. These practices have raised concerns, especially in light of past public health crises like SARS, prompting consumers to become more aware of the importance of hygienic towel use. So, how can we break these bad habits and make scientific choices when it comes to towels? Here are some tips to help you choose and use towels correctly: (1) **Purchase**: Try to buy from large shopping malls, supermarkets, or specialty stores, and always opt for products from reputable manufacturers. (2) **Identification**: Quality towels should have a standardized logo, along with information such as the manufacturer, origin, contact details, trademark, and washing instructions. (3) **Feel**: High-quality towels are usually soft, fluffy, and elastic. (4) **Appearance**: A good towel has bright colors, clear patterns, even loops, and neat seams. (5) **Smell**: Qualified towels should have no strong or chemical odors. Additionally, you can perform some simple tests while using the towel. For example, if water droplets are quickly absorbed, it indicates good water absorption. High-quality towels feel elastic and provide friction, and the color doesn't fade easily. On the other hand, lower quality towels may be less absorbent, feel loose and slippery, and tend to fade more quickly. They may also irritate the skin or eyes. It is recommended that consumers treat small towels as disposable items and use them in a scientifically responsible way. (1) **Dedicated Use**: Use different towels for different purposes. For instance, use one for your face, another for your body, and another for cleaning. There are various types available, such as square towels, face towels, bath towels, napkins, tea towels, kitchen towels, children’s towels, and beauty towels, catering to different needs. According to national guidelines, each person should ideally have at least three towels, with women advised to have four. (2) **Proper Washing and Disinfection**: When washing your face or taking a shower, rinse the towel with water and soap first before drying. This helps reduce dirt buildup. After each use, wash the towel thoroughly and sterilize it by boiling for 10 minutes weekly. Ensure it is aired out in a well-ventilated area and dried promptly. (3) **Replace Regularly**: Replacing towels regularly is key to overcoming outdated habits. Most towels should be replaced every three months. (4) **Special Treatment**: Over time, towels can become stiff due to the buildup of calcium and magnesium from hard water and soap. To soften them, soak the towel in a solution of 30 grams of soda ash or 1.5 grams of salt dissolved in water for 10 minutes. If the towel becomes oily, washing it with salt water can help restore its softness. By following these practices, you can significantly improve hygiene, protect your health, and make more informed choices about the towels you use daily.
